On January 2, 2012, Cliff Mygatt was awarded with the Caldwell Club certificate and pin. The Caldwell Club was developed to bring awareness to the many more beautiful and interesting objects beyond those in the Messier catalogue.
To qualify for a Caldwell Award, you need to be a member of the Astronomical League, a benefit you automatically receive when you become a member of the Olympic Astronomical Society.
Also on January 2, Scott de Lessart presented the
Night Sky Network Award to five members of the OAS for their services to the community. Jerry and Dorothy Armstrong, Gene and Anna Garcia and Cliff Mygatt were the recipients to receive the award.
Many people do not get the opportunity to look through a telescope and see the wonders of science. Outreach programs such as the Night Sky Network allows us to share our knowledge and skills with others.

The Messier Club is a great club for beginner astronomers. There are many clubs available to both the novice and the experienced. To find out more about these clubs and information for signing up, ask one of our OAS members or go to the
Astronomical League website and look for the "Observing Clubs" section.
